Four learners for Rathbone in Felling took the journey to Middlesbrough every day for 3 days and turned a muddy bit of land in to a flagged area fit for any shed!
The Training Adviser leading the team was Karen Lowthian:'When I was asked to help with this project I jumped at the chance of doing some practical sessions with learners as I am usually in the classroom
The group was put together by the e2e team and I spent 1 session arranging parental consent forms and briefing the learners on the task ahead
We all had to do some study work as I had only laid a patio once before the previous year in felling centre garden
The team was great they all chipped in and worked together from the start. As Ta I didn’t have to do much once I had shown the team their task they just got on with it.'
The learners involved really enjoyed the experience, David Flemming:
'When I went down to Middlesbrough I enjoyed learning something new, I enjoyed talking to the people I was working with and the Banta whilst laying the patio. It was good to get out of the centre and get some fresh air. The experience is good to have and I enjoyed the manual labour. I hope to get a key skill qualification out of this in Improve own learning and performance.'
David Patterson:
'I enjoyed the project in Middlesbrough I feel I got a lot out of it .it was good fun and I got experience of working outdoors I liked working with the team and meeting new people . It has also given me evidence towards my qualification in construction and my key skills.'
Jodie Deighton:
'I really enjoyed the work I did up at Middlesbrough because it was something I had never done before and I learned a lot. I also liked the fact that I was out of centre learning new things and meeting new people.
My job was to level off the dolly and sand so that the others could make a start with the vibrating plate.'
and Billy Orr:
'I really enjoyed the work I did down Middlesbrough I mainly enjoyed being out of the centre and doing practical work
I learned how to build and level a patio'
